Sharp unveils the UK's biggest LCD TV - Products - new television has 30 inch LCD screen, United Kingdom - Brief Article - Product AnnouncementIan Evans SHARP is bringing the biggest LCD screen on the market to the UK. The 30in panel is looking at an imminent release onto British turf, after being unveiled last year at Berlin's Internationale Funkausstellung.
Not only is the LC-30HV2E far and away Sharp's biggest LCD screen to date, it is also their first widescreen panel, incorporating the newly developed Advanced Super View technology for greater picture quality and brightness.
ASV allows the user to watch the TV from almost any part of the lounge as the screen has a viewing angle of 170 [degrees], with, apparently none of the dimming that has limited the appeal of LCD panels for television.
It also improves the speed of response of the LCD panel to incoming signals, significantly reducing the smearing effect of fast action -- for example sport -- that was sometimes evident on previous generation LCD.
The LC-30HV2E attempts to make the most of these benefits with its 30in wide WXGA resolution black TFT LCD panel -- coming in at just 84.5mm thick.
The screen offers 430cd/[m.sup.2] brightness and a 500:1 contrast ratio. The TV also features Fastext with picture in picture plus Nicam stereo and SRS Focus Surround Sound.
To ensure the screen is as compact as possible, the LC30HV2E has a separate AV centre which houses the TV tuner and a wide range of inputs and outputs for compatibility with home-cinema equipment, including three Scart sockets and S-Video in and out.
It also features a PC input. In common with all of Sharp's Aquos LCD TVs, it can be wall mounted with a VESA standard wall bracket.
With this product, Sharp is going head to head with the 32in plasma screens, meaning that for the first time these two flat screen products will be competing with each other.
On LCD's side, there exist the advantages of lower power consumption, longer life, and no fans, meaning quieter operation.
Nonetheless Sharp is also launching a pair of plasma televisions, in the 50in and 42in sizes. With a brightness of 350cd/[m.sup.2] and a contrast ratio of 900:1, Sharp is hoping to provide a vivid and dynamic viewing experience from these 1280 x 768 pixel panels.
A new pure colour filter is used in the panel to reduce light reflection so pictures are much less affected when viewed in bright conditions such as a lounge in daytime.
In addition, advanced continuous emission display technology is intended to improve colour gradation and detail in dark areas of the picture, which have been problematic for earlier generation plasma displays.
