DirecTV Latin America Creates World Cup Network In Mexico - Brief Article Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based DirecTV Latin America granted Mexican TV companies CNI Canal 40 and Multimedios/Milenio the rights to broadcast a minimum of 40 games of the FIFA World Cup Korea/Japan 2002 on open television for an undisclosed figure.
The agreements are the first of its kind in a series of upcoming deals that will allow DirecTV Latin America to create a World Cup open television network throughout Mexico by signing with individual companies.
The agreements include the inaugural game, all Mexican National Team games, semifinals and the final, as well as other matches exclusively reserved for these networks. The distribution strategy responds to DirecTV's commitment to bring the 2002 FIFA World Cup Korea/Japan to as many viewers in Mexico as possible, said Raul Reyes, vice president of the World Cup for DirecTV Latin America.
