Blockbuster launches pay-per-view service - In conjunction w/ Direct TV - Brief Article DALLAS - Blockbuster Entertainment continued to expand beyond the video rental business this month with the launch of a branded pay-per-view service on DirecTV. The new "Blockbuster Ticket" brand was launched June 1 with the pay-per-view debut of "Space Cowboys." Despite the name change, DirecTV will continue to handle customer relations and billing, keeping its price at $3.99 per movie. For Blockbuster, the branding is an extension of a deal it signed last September with DirecTV to sell its satellite TV service out of Blockbuster stores. Under the terms of the deal, the retail chain will get a percentage of DirecTV's pay-per-view revenues based on how many new subscribers it signs up.
